Why good construction and trades businesses still lose quotes to worse ones
We hear the same frustration from builders, contractors, and trades businesses across London: the work is good, referrals are strong, but new enquiries from people who don't already know you are inconsistent. Usually, the issue isn't the work. It's what a stranger sees when they search for you before picking up the phone.
What a prospective client actually checks
Before contacting a trades business they haven't used before, most people will look at three things in quick succession: your Google reviews, a handful of project photos, and whether your website looks like it's still being maintained. If any of those three feel thin or out of date, many will quietly move on to a competitor rather than risk it.
The gap between good work and visible proof of good work
A strong portfolio of completed projects means very little if it's sitting in a phone camera roll rather than online. The businesses that consistently win larger, higher-margin projects are usually the ones that have made it easy to verify their track record in under a minute, not the ones doing the best work behind the scenes.
This is a solvable problem, and it doesn't require a rebrand. It requires a structured approach to collecting and showcasing reviews, and a website that reflects the quality of the work it's representing.
